The Traveler's Guide for Exploring & Enjoying Second Life

Next Post: A Word About Identity

Welcome to The Wandering Avatar!

Hello fellow Second Lifers…and welcome to my new blog.  Unlike many of the Second Life offerings, The Wandering Avatar (TWA) is neither a “how-to-do-it” blog nor a personal trek through Second Life.  Rather, the TWA blog seeks to be an in-depth look at places, people, and activities to be found within the virtual community.  An electronic “Frommer’s” guide, so to speak.

TWA is also not a place for reviews, endorsements, criticisms, or other catty chit-chat.  When highlighting and discussing places to go and people to see, the writers and contributors of TWA will, of course, give their opinions, and rightly so; however, the purpose of this blog is to inform, not to persuade or dissuade.

The content of TWA will include descriptions and pictures from various Second Life venues, covering everything from entertainment and attractions, music and art, education, and even the corporate world.  TWA will interview interesting people, from street people to residents to performers to perhaps even celebrities.

TWA will also be on the hunt for gorgeous terraforming, exhilarating places, and exciting architecture.  Because Second Life is so texture-rich, part of the mission of TWA will be to highlight the artistry and talent of the residents who have created this sparkling panorama.  Readers and followers of TWA are highly encouraged to suggest subjects of potential interest, as well as submit their own submissions for inclusion in the blog.

Because TWA should be a ‘living’ blog, recorded offerings will be provided when possible in order to supplement and enhance the narrative.  Video footage of events and audio recordings–primaryily of live music gigs–will be included with the posts.  In addition many pictures and images will be provided as well.

As TWA gets rolling, a companion podcast will be included in order to provide a ‘human voice’ to the written page.  Again the companion podcast will cover similar content and a review of recent posts.

Alas, a final caveat.  As this blog develops, and hopefully thrives, the opportunities for advertising–both from those inside Second Life as well as outside–will surely arise.  Please accept my assurances and promises that only quality advertising from sources related to the mission of TWA will be accepted.  TWA readers will never be subjected to meaningless advertising simply for the sake of making money.  Integrity will be the watchword.

So, Second Life travelers, let’s start out on a journey of discovery, new friends, and, of course, FUN!
